Chassiron lighthouse

Located at the end of the island in the seaside resort of Saint-Denis, the 46 metre high Chassiron lighthouse is open to the public and can be visited. Enjoy a stunning view of the island and surrounding nature.

Chassiron lighthouse is located on the northern tip of Ile d’Oléron, known as the “end of the world”.

More than 150 years old, Chassiron lighthouse helps sailors navigating in the Pertuis d’Antioche.

Climb the Chassiron lighthouse’s 224 steps. From up there, you’ll appreciate the view of the fishing weirs and the whole island, Fort Boyard, île de Ré and île d’Aix.

Visit the lighthouse and walk along the cliff and in the surrounding fields, where you can appreciate the remnants of the last world war. A staircase carved into the cliff takes you to the seafront where the clam fishermen scrape the rocks.
